Sagres Crescent Sofa

The frame wraps the whole of the back and both arms, so the timber reads as one continuous line holding the upholstery inside it — visible from the front, unbroken from every other angle. It is steam-bent rather than cut to shape, which is what keeps the grain running with the curve instead of across it.

Below, one uninterrupted bench. No cushion divisions, no seams across the sitting surface: the piece is built to be lounged along rather than sat in sections, and the scatter cushions are supplied loose so the line of the seat stays whole.

The frame is hand-finished in oil, so grain and tone vary board to board and no two read exactly alike. An oiled surface takes up the oils of everyday use and develops patina where hands rest.

Upholstery and exposed solid walnut, hand-finished in oil.
