Comporta Woven Sofa

The arms are panels rather than volumes. A solid arm on a sofa this long would read as mass; an open one holds the same width without the weight, and the cushions sit low between the rounded posts at each corner rather than being contained by them.

Each panel is woven by hand into the curve of the frame, which means small differences in tension and spacing from one arm to the other. The frame lifts on turned legs rather than a plinth, so the piece stands lighter than its length suggests.

Oak is selected for grain, so color and figure vary from frame to frame. Oak lightens with exposure and deepens with handling; rattan tightens in dry air and relaxes in humidity, and a little seasonal movement is normal.

Upholstery, solid oak and woven rattan.
