DETAILS

The arms are the argument. Generously rolled and fully upholstered, they take the curve from the back around to the front with no seam and no interruption, so the silhouette holds from every angle rather than only from the front.

Beneath it, the one hard edge on an otherwise soft piece. The plinth is cut from solid walnut and shaped by hand to follow the curve of the body above it, rather than mitred from straight sections — the only way the line stays continuous the whole way round.

Piping is sewn and set by hand along the leading edge, which is the hardest line on the piece to hold true around a bend. Buttoned backs are pulled and tied one at a time. Walnut varies in grain and tone from one plinth to the next.
