DETAILS

A kidney plan is a shape meant to be floated and walked around: finished on every side, with no back that has to be hidden against a wall. Pulling both ends forward turns the seating inward, so people sitting at either end face each other rather than the same direction.

The seat is one uninterrupted bench, tight-upholstered, with no cushion divisions. Beneath it the plinth follows the curve exactly — shaped rather than assembled, cut to the line of the body above it rather than mitred from straight sections, which is the only way it stays continuous around a compound curve.

Buttoned backs are pulled and tied one at a time and carried around the arms. Walnut varies in grain and tone from one plinth to the next.
