Taormina Wave Sideboard

Each door is shaped as a single wave, swelling forward and falling back across its width, so the four together read as one continuous ripple along the front. The light does most of the work: it runs down every crest and pools in every hollow, and the walnut grain, laid vertically, bends with it.

The top is cut to follow the doors exactly. Its front edge undulates in step with the wave below and is rounded over, so the piece has no hard line anywhere across its face. The case corners are rounded to the same radius.

The pulls are small half-moons of brushed brass, set into the top edge of each door where the hand falls naturally. Below, two brass sled feet are set well in from the ends, so the case appears to float above the floor.

Behind the doors is generous storage for a dining room or living room: table linen, glassware, records, or a media system.

Dust the walnut with a soft dry cloth, following the grain and the curve of each door. Wipe the brass with a dry cloth only; polish will alter its brushed finish. Use coasters and mats on the top, and keep the sideboard out of direct sun, which lightens walnut over time.
