Cantù Bookcase

The Cantù is a tall double-width bookcase. Three columns of turned bobbins run the full height of the front: one at each side and one down the center.

Each bobbin is turned from solid oak on a lathe and set into the frame in a continuous line. The spheres are matched in size by hand, so the rows read as even and unbroken from floor to crown.

Between the bobbins, four open bays hold adjustable shelves. Closed cabinets above and below keep the less orderly things out of sight.

The cabinet doors close flush with no visible hardware and open with a light press. The grain is matched across each pair of doors.

The case stands on a solid oak plinth that is set slightly proud of the frame. A wall anchor is included and should always be used.

Dust the bobbins with a soft, dry brush to reach between the turnings, and wipe the flat surfaces with a dry cloth, following the grain. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources. Always secure it to the wall with the anchor provided.
