Ravenna Side Table

The baluster is one of the oldest profiles in furniture — the swelling, waisted column that carried stair rails and altar tables long before it carried anything to drink. Here it is doubled, so the eye reads two full curves between the top and the floor rather than one long taper.

A brass ring catches the column at its narrowest point, and a second band is inlaid into the edge of the foot. Both are structural as well as decorative: the collar hides the joint between the two turnings, and the foot band protects the timber where it meets the floor.

The top sits in a brass retaining ring rather than resting loose on the column, so the stone cannot shift or chip at the edge.

Cut from natural stone, no two tops are alike. The veining shown is representative rather than identical to the piece you receive.

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Blot spills on the stone at once — marble is porous and acidic liquids will etch it. Keep the timber out of direct sun, and let the brass darken naturally rather than polishing it back.
