Menaggio Chevron Sideboard

Each end of the case is a true half-circle, and across it the walnut is laid in a chevron: strips of grain angled toward each other so they meet in a line down the center of the curve. Seen from the side, the pattern draws the eye to the middle; seen from the front, it turns as the case turns.

Between the ends, four doors are reeded their full height in fine vertical lines, a quieter texture that lets the chevron do the talking. Bar pulls in brushed brass are paired at the center of each pair of doors.

The marble top follows the plan of the case exactly, rounded at both ends, and overhangs it on every side by a narrow margin. Veining varies from block to block; the piece shown is representative, and yours will differ.

Below a slim walnut rail, the case stands on four cast brass feet that flare out from the corners and taper to the floor, with a fifth support at the center of the longer span.

Blot spills on the marble at once, and use coasters and a tray under anything wet; acidic liquids will mark it. Dust the walnut with a soft brush or dry cloth, following the reeding. Wipe the brass with a dry cloth only; polish will alter its brushed finish. Keep the sideboard out of direct sun, which lightens walnut over time.
