Iseo Console Table

The whole piece is two panels and a box. What makes it work is the arch cut through each panel — it takes the weight out of the silhouette without adding a leg, and it gives you a view through to whatever is behind, which is why a long console can sit against a wall without closing it off.

Everything is the same tone: smoked oak, black hide, dark metal. With no colour contrast to do the work, the piece relies entirely on texture — the open grain of the oak against the fine pebbling of the drawer fronts — and on the one soft radius where the drawer corners follow the case.

The pulls are brass, wrapped in the same hide as the fronts and finished with polished collars. They are the only reflective thing on the piece, which is the point.

Timber figure and hide pattern vary; the piece shown is representative.

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Blot spills on the drawer fronts at once — the textured hide is porous and marks readily. Keep out of direct sun; smoked oak fades unevenly and a black hide will grey. Do not condition the leather with oils, which darken the texture into blotches.
