Faro Console Table

Wrapping a whole piece rather than just its flat faces is the difficult version of this technique. Every edge, every corner and the inside face of every leg has to be covered, and the seams have to fall where nobody looks — turned into the corners, or hidden under the feet. Done properly there is no visible beginning or end.

The frame underneath is Ming in its proportions: square legs, stepped block feet, and a small arched bracket where each leg meets the apron. Those brackets are structural in the original furniture and decorative here, but they are what keeps a long console from reading as a plain box on sticks.

Against all that texture, the pulls are the only hard thing on the piece — cast brass in a faux-bamboo profile, left satin so they warm rather than glint.

Natural fibre varies in tone from batch to batch. The piece shown is representative.

Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum brush attachment — the weave holds dust in its texture and a cloth only moves it around. Blot spills at once; woven fibre absorbs and will stain. Keep out of direct sun, which bleaches it unevenly, and away from damp, which loosens the adhesive behind the wrap.
