Deauville Console Table

The arc carries everything. A single laminated curve rises from a low plinth to meet the case, and a line of brass inlaid flush along its length follows the bend the whole way — which is the hardest part of the piece to make, because the metal has to be bent to the same radius and let in without a gap.

Against the dark timber, the drawer fronts are deliberately pale and deliberately textured: a fine pebbled surface with a star at its centre, panel-matched so each drawer reads as one continuous piece rather than a patchwork.

The proportions are 1920s Paris — a heavy horizontal case floated on a light curved support, with the visual weight kept high and the floor left open beneath.

Timber figure and hide pattern both vary; the piece shown is representative.

Dust the timber and the drawer fronts with a soft dry cloth. Blot spills on the textured fronts immediately — the surface is porous and will mark. Keep out of direct sun, which lightens the timber and yellows a pale hide. Let the brass darken naturally rather than polishing it.
