DETAILS

Lerici is a frame chair, and a frame chair only works if the frame is honest. Each side is one continuous length of solid walnut: it rises from the floor as a front leg, turns through the arm, and carries the back. There is no joint at the bend and no veneer over a corner — the curve is cut and shaped from the solid, so the grain runs unbroken from the foot to the shoulder.

The two sides are tied together by a low side stretcher and a front rail, both mortise-and-tenon jointed. That triangle is what keeps the chair square under a sitter who drops into it rather than lowering themselves in. Rear legs splay back and are shaped to a soft taper, so the chair reads light from every side and reveals the frame from behind — it can stand away from a wall.

The crescent back is upholstered over a shaped hardwood core and set into the uprights so it floats a few inches clear of the seat. The gap is structural as much as visual: it keeps the back from transmitting weight into the cushion and lets the chair breathe in a room. The back sits low and wraps past the shoulder blade, supporting you without closing you in.

The seat is a single deep cushion on a webbed suspension, a high-resilience core wrapped in a down-and-fiber blend. It holds its shape between uses and recovers overnight. Because it rests above the rail rather than dropping into a well, the frame stays visible on all four sides.

Every exposed face is hand-sanded through four grits and finished with a low-sheen oil that leaves the grain open to the touch. Upholstery is cut and fitted by hand to each frame, with the weave run true across the seat and back. Leveling glides under each foot adjust for uneven floors.
