Construction

Solid American black walnut panel legs, shaped and hand-sanded
Kiln-dried hardwood seat frame, corner-blocked and doweled
Webbed suspension beneath the seat deck
High-resilience foam seat core with down-blend wrap
Tight-fitted upholstery, no loose cushion, no visible welt
Felt pads to the base of each panel

DETAILS

The panels are cut from solid stock and shaped by hand, so the grain runs continuously around the bend rather than stopping at a joint. Tone and figure vary from one bench to the next.

The seat is tight-fitted rather than cushioned, and carries no visible welt, which keeps the line flat and unbroken along the full length and lets the upholstery meet the timber without a seam to look at. Tight upholstery has no loose cushion to sit over an imperfect seam, so every line has to be pulled true the first time.

It works at the end of a bed, along a hallway, or drawn up to a table — anywhere the height of a seat matters more than the presence of a back.
